In order to have a vacation at Disney, you can’t go to the theme parks every day. Wait, what? It sounds odd because that’s literally why you visit Walt Disney World, but hear me out. Theme parks are magical places that can be overstimulating, crowded, hot, and just plain exhausting. On average, you will take 25,000+ steps daily in a theme park and not even come close to seeing everything (equivalent to a half marathon each day). In order to give your body, mind, and budget a break, I highly recommend taking a day or two by your Disney resort pool. There are so many benefits of a Disney Resort Pool Day, so let’s jump into them.
The Disney Resort Pool Theming Is Superb
I hear many people concerned that spending time by a pool is going to be boring and not give their family the magical vacation they were expecting. But here’s why Disney Resort pools are different. The theming is top-notch, and they are really great at continuing the magic you feel at the theme parks at your resort. Honestly, some of the pools feel like mini-water parks. Your value resorts will have larger-than-life characters, splash areas for the little ones, and lots of space. Your moderate and deluxe pools will feature theming that matches your resort vibe with pool slides, waterfalls, and splash parks for the little ones. Cast members host games and fun music daily. Pools are heated in the colder months, and there are tons of relaxing pool chairs. And adults can grab some delicious alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages poolside too.
Disney Resort Pool Days Are Physically Relaxing
As I mentioned before, Disney theme parks can be physically exhausting. On average, you will walk the equivalent of a half marathon each day you are in a theme park if you are strategic with your steps. Add to that weather challenges with heat or rain, carrying a book bag, or pushing a stroller, all while trying to make your lightning lane reservation or next dining reservation. It’s a lot for even the most seasoned athlete, which isn’t me! Don’t get me wrong; I LOVE the theme parks. But I find if I spend a full day in the theme parks for each day of my trip, the last day is really a waste of money because my whole family and I are really too exhausted to enjoy it. I love throwing a pool day into the middle of our vacation. This gives us the physical break that we need allowing us to really enjoy the theme parks later in the week.
Disney Resort Pool Days Are Mentally Relaxing
This goes hand in hand with physically relaxing. Let’s just be honest; the theme parks can be mentally overwhelming too. We have all heard and seen groups having fights at Walt Disney World. These altercations pop up so much more when we are tired. And whether we realize it or not, all of the planning, mapping, organizing reservations, highly stimulating rides, and crowds can drain your mental capacity for rational thought.
I think the biggest argument for skipping the pool is that you may miss something in the theme parks. This was huge for me! The minute I allowed myself to “miss things” in the theme parks, I actually started having a vacation. Disney isn’t designed to do it all in one trip. They want you to keep coming year after year, and if you try to push yourself or your family to do too much, you won’t enjoy it. This is why taking yourself out of the theme parks and relaxing at the pool is so important for you mentally. You will recharge your mind and emotions and be able to actually enjoy your vacation instead of surviving it.
Spending Time At The Disney Resort Pool Is Budget Friendly
We love this one!! It’s no surprise that Disney can be expensive. But we are under the firm belief that you can take an affordable Disney vacation! One of our favorite tips is to not go to the theme parks every day and enjoy a resort day instead. If you are staying at a Disney resort, you have so many activities and amenities available to you for free. This is a great way to skip the cost of park admission for one day and enjoy the things you are already paying for at your resort. The pools are the biggest draw but if you are worried about swimming for a whole day (or that doesn’t sound fun), then be sure to check out all of the other activities available. You will find playgrounds, walking paths, cast member lead games and crafts, shopping, arcades, scavenger hunts, community halls (at select deluxe resorts), bike and boat rentals, campfire and s’mores, horse carriage rentals, movie under the stars, and much more! These activities help you actually relax on your vacation and make your vacation more affordable.
Disney Resort Pools Can Boost Your Mood
Disney resorts are designed to be fun and inviting, and spending time around the water can be incredibly calming and therapeutic. Not only does the sound of the water help to create a peaceful environment, but the natural beauty of the area can also be a mood booster. I find that when we take time for either a Disney pool day or even just a pool afternoon, I feel so recharged and ready to enjoy my time in the theme parks again. Plus, the activities offered at Disney resorts are designed to be engaging and enjoyable, which can help to increase endorphins. All in all, spending time at a Disney resort can be a great way to kickstart your mood and help you feel relaxed and happy!
