The Worst Hotels to Stay in During Disney World Resort Renovations This Year

When it comes to visiting Disney World, staying at one of the Disney-owned hotels is a popular choice for many visitors, us included! These hotels offer unique theming and convenient perks like free transportation to and from theme parks. However, it's important to be aware of ongoing renovations and construction that might affect your stay. Disney is famous for keeping their resorts in top shape, which means renovations and construction happen frequently at different properties. So let's take a closer look at the Disney World resort renovations currently going on, focusing on three hotels that you may want to avoid based on the updates and changes they are currently undergoing. Let's dive in!

Disney World Resort Renovations This Year

Now we do want to mention that this isn't a full list of all of the renovations happening in 2023. Just the ones that may hurt the magic if you are staying at a Disney Resort. There are additional changes being made to many DVC properties as well as some "soft goods" renovations (think furniture, bedding, etc) at others. Soft goods changes, though, do not typically cause any disturbance to your stay. So we are to stick with the major ones that could spoil the magic if you were unaware.

Polynesian Village: A Tranquil Retreat with Construction

The Polynesian Village, known for its serene atmosphere and tropical theming, is currently undergoing some updates and changes. If you choose to stay at this resort, you might encounter construction activities during your visit. However, it's important to note that most of the construction takes place during the day, so you can still enjoy your time at the theme parks without much disruption. If you prefer a quieter stay, you might want to consider other options until the renovations are complete.

Also, be aware that a new Disney Vacation Club (DVC) tower is currently under construction in this area as well. While this construction may lead to some visual and audible disturbances, Disney has reassured guests that noise-generating activities will not commence earlier than 9 AM. If you don't mind witnessing the progress and are excited about the new additions to the resort, you can still enjoy your stay at this tropical paradise.

Trail's End: A Marketplace Transformation

The Trail's End restaurant, located within Disney World, is currently closed for renovations. However, exciting changes are underway as it is being transformed into a marketplace concept with expanded quick service options. While the table service option will no longer be available, the revamped Trail's End is set to reopen this summer (July 27th, 2023), providing guests with a refreshed dining experience. Also, keep in mind that once the restaurant reopens, construction barriers and coverings may still be in the area for additional resort renovations.

Even though there are walls up all around the restaurant and water area, you don't hear much construction noise over in the campground and cabin area. You can also get mobile orders from Trails Inn Restaurant (even though you can't eat inside). But our favorite part was all of the food trucks that they have brought in with great food and dessert options. You can find these near the Trails End Restaurant behind the playground.

Disney's BoardWalk Inn: Modern Updates and Culinary Delights

Disney's BoardWalk Inn is undergoing significant changes, including updates to its rooms and a refurbished lobby. Guests can look forward to a refreshed and modernized environment. Additionally, a new culinary addition called The Cake Bake Shop is expected to open in 2023, adding an exciting dining option to the BoardWalk area. These renovations are much needed, in our opinion, and we can't wait to see what the new refresh will look like.

However, keep in mind that construction activities may be visible and audible during the daytime hours. During our last visit, many areas of the Boardwalk were behind barriers, and construction vehicles and trucks were visible. If you're seeking a tranquil stay, it might be best to consider another hotel, like Yacht Club (which has access to the Boardwalk), until the renovations are completed.

When planning your Disney World vacation, it's essential to stay informed about the ongoing resort renovations. While some hotels are currently undergoing updates and changes, others offer a tranquil and undisturbed experience. By considering this information, you can make an informed decision about where to stay during your Disney World adventure. Remember to check for the latest updates from Disney regarding construction schedules and noise levels to ensure a memorable and enjoyable experience. Happy travels!
